Changing Carboniferous Arc Magmatism in the Ossa-Morena Zone (Southwest Iberia): Implications for the Variscan Belt

چکیده

Carboniferous magmatism in southwestern Iberia was continuously active for more than 60 m.y. during the development of Appalachian-Variscan belt North America, Africa and Western-Central Europe. This collisional orogen that records closure Rheic Ocean is essential to understanding late Paleozoic amalgamation Pangea supercontinent. However, oblique convergence between Laurussia Gondwana lasted from Devonian likely complex. Recently, a new tectonic model has regarded Variscan as site coeval accretionary orogenic processes. Early plutonic rocks southwest indicate arc Gondwana. The Ossa-Morena Zone (OMZ) acted upper plate relation geometry Paleotethys subduction. accretionary-extensional margin progressively involved phase Late Carboniferous. Together, Évora Massif Beja Igneous Complex include three successive stages bimodal magmatism, with chemical composition indicative long-lived subduction process lasting Tournaisian Moscovian OMZ. earliest stage includes Torrão gabbro-dioritic Layered Gabbroic Sequence. Correlating deformation in Variscan NW-Iberia using porphyroblasts; implications for the Ibero-Armorican Arc

3-D microstructural analysis of 30 porphyroblastic samples from the Variscan orogen in NW-Iberia has revealed four sets of inclusion trails with distinctive geographic trends and relative timing. The chronological and orientational consistency of these microstructures provides a reference frame for the correlation of macroscopic structural successions. The two younger inclusion trail sets corre...

New U-Pb SHRIMP zircon ages for pre-variscan orthogneisses from Portugal and their bearing on the evolution of the Ossa-Morena tectonic zone.

New SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages for the Portalegre and Alcáçovas orthogneisses document a complex pre- Variscan history for the Iberian basement in Portugal. The available geochemical and geochronological data for the Alcáçovas orthogneiss (ca. 540 Ma) tend to favor its involvement in a Cadomian orogenic event. This is consistent with the development of an active continental margin setting at the e...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Late orogenic carboniferous extensions in the Variscan French Massif Central

The Variscan French Massif Central experienced two successive stages of extension from Middle Carboniferous to Early Permian. In the northern Massif Central, the first stage began in the late Visean, immediately after nappe stacking, and is well recorded by NamurianWestphalian synkinematic plutonism. The Middle Carboniferous leucogranites widespread in the NW Massif Central (Limousin and Sioule...
